FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is engineered hardwood?
Engineered hardwood flooring is made up of several layers which are all fused together compared to being cut from a single plank. The species of wood used for the core layers will vary depending on the quality of the product. The crisscross of core wood layers stabilize the core and make it less likely to expand, shift or contract when exposed to moisture.
Engineered hardwood vs Laminate. What is the best?
Both products are hard-surfaced and made of multiple layers. The primary difference is engineered hardwood is made of actual wood while laminate consists of a wood fibre core from recycled wood fibres. When it comes to choosing the best, it really is a question of what is best for you, the individual. You will find a lot more competitive prices with laminate but a higher quality of exotic woods with engineered hardwood.
Should I install engineered hardwood myself?
We discuss this with our customers in their initial consultation. As a responsible flooring company, we recommend against installing this type of flooring on your own. Wood is one of the trickiest types of flooring to install and it's easy to make tiny mistakes which will ruin the entire experience and the finished product. Hiring a professional allows you to kickback and relax while the pros handle all of the hard work and clean-up.
How do I maintain this type of flooring?
It may be complex to install but cleaning them is a breeze. Thanks to their even, smooth surfaces, we recommend a daily light cleaning with a broom or microfibre mop. A point to note is that even though engineered wood is resistant to moisture, it's best to avoid using a steam mop or water to minimize the risk of damage. Always follow the manufacturer's directions, which usually provide cleaning instructions.
